Guanacaste Province

Costa Rica’s northwest Pacific province, beaches, dry forest and the Blue Zone of Nicoya. Start with the big picture: the region we call home and why its microclimates, towns and coastline draw people from all over the world.

Tamarindo

Guanacaste’s best-known beach town, surf, sunsets, restaurants and nightlife, all walkable. The busiest and most developed of our areas, and the easiest soft landing for first-timers.

Flamingo

Upscale and marina-centered, with some of the coast’s most striking white-sand beaches. Quieter than Tamarindo, polished without being pretentious, a favorite for boaters and second-home owners.

Surfside

A laid-back residential pocket between Tamarindo and Potrero, known for its surf break and easygoing rhythm. More local, less scene, an easy place to settle into daily life.

Potrero

Authentic Costa Rica. A quiet, friendly local town with three great beaches within 800 meters, including Playa Penca, one of the country’s finest, plus 35 km of hiking and biking trails at Las Catalinas. Six sodas (pronounced SOH-dah, just like it looks, small local cafes), waterfront restaurants, the region’s best gelato and largest supermercado: everything you need, nothing you don’t. (We don’t have bingo, trivia night or karaoke.)

Playa Hermosa

Calm, swimmable beaches and a relaxed family-friendly pace, just north of the bustle. The loudest decision of the day is which beach to walk.

Las Catalinas

A car-free beach town built around plazas, trails and the water, 35 km of hiking and biking through dry forest, right out your front door. New-urbanist design meets Costa Rican coastline.
